Reflection Socratic Seminar Blogpost 11

Socratic Seminar Globalization

  1.  Some main ideas I am taking in away from the seminar were first of all that globalization can be good or bad, depending on your point of view. The second one is that globalization is helping economies and governments to exchange ideas easier this means there is more diversity.
  2. The most interesting idea I heard in the seminar was that people are not the only thing in this planet. There is also nature, and resources we are going to need in the future.
  3. I mostly disagreed with Leticia's comment on that oil multinationals care a lot about the oil spills and the environment. The truth is that they don't care they just care about money not the planet. That is why governments should make their laws harsher.
  4. I think I did a good job. I prepared well had good questions and good points of view. I contributed to the discussion and always cited and supported what I said with evidence.
  5. I think article number one was better and talked more about globalization because it had an overview of every good thing from globalization not about just one part like the second article did. It was straight and clear and easy to understand. It covered everything.

Blogpost 10 Globallization

Alejandro Camargo

Globalization is the movement and improvement of ideas and goods. People get ideas from other people and improve them.
Guns Germs and Steal is a perfect movie to reflect on globalization. The Spanish and Europeans brought their ideas to the Americas and here they improved them. Having the goods and resources are an essential part of innovating if you have to waste time looking for food and resources you can't have time to innovate.

Economic impact of Globalization:
  • Innovation leads to new products that means a better economic system with more movement.
  • It makes the Economic systems more effective.
  • There is technological advancements that help run the economic systems.

Cultural impact of Globalization:
  • Cultural mixes this makes a country more effective. It also leaves more variety.
  • There may be international cooperation to get new ideas and improve the world. So new countries become friends and cultures blend in.
  • It helps people get to know other cultures and other ideas and foods.

Privilege and Preference Test Reflection
Alejandro Camargo
January, 15/2015

After a lot of discussion in class I thought about what would I choose men or women but I did not no which one I was biased to. So I took the test of gender in the Understanding Prejudice webpage. After the long hard test with some thinking time required the results were that I slightly prefer female with career an male with family. I thought that I matched better Males with career and Females so I was very surprised by the results. Finally I feel comfortable with my results because they say that I am not very biased to one side just a little bit.

Socratic Seminar Reflexion #2

Socratic Seminar #2
Alejandro Camargo
Main Ideas
  • The Chinese Government is slowly banishing the one child rule.
  • Modi is trying to join religion with health advancements.
  • Modi is comparing Indian healthcare with a lot of years ago.
Most Interesting Fact
  • The most interesting fact that I heard in the discussion was the point of how the overpopulation is affecting the world to much.
  • A point that I disagreed with in the socratic seminar was Daniel's point of the environment, he said that the Buddists should be en charge of the nature but I did not think this would solve the question we were asking.
  • If I would be grading I would out for me a 3.75. I would put a 3.75 because I feel that I participated, asked questions, say my point of view, and more.  I would not put a four because I could have participated a little bit more and be more in topic.

Blogpost #6 Code of Honor

Code of Honor

1. Summarize your conversation:
A summary of a conversation with my parents was that I have to follow the code of honor under any circumstances; I have to take responsibility for myself and my work, be honest, I respect other people, I do not harass or intimidate anyone, and I follow all the bullets below each pillar.

2. Something new you learned about the code of honor:
Something new I learned was that you have to participate and get committed into a school organisation or activity.

3. A question you have for Mr. O'Malley or Mr. Merritt.
After looking at the code of honor I had one question, Are their or what are the consequences for not being involved in a school activity or organisation.

Civilization Essay

Alejandro Camargo
In the past week we have been looking at early civilizations and we have been doing projects about them. This time we had to chose two different civilizations and compare and contrast them. I chose The Harapan and the Ancient Egypt civilisations. The both civilizations have some things in common and somethings that are totally different. For example the Harapan's religion was Hinduism and later turned to Buddhism and the Ancient Egypt's believed in several different gods and in the sacred book.

Somethings that could have caused conflict between this two civilizations is religion. Religion could cause conflict because some people could think that everybody has to follow the Ancient Egyptian gods if not it was illegal or the other way around. This could cause a lot of fighting and problems between the two civilizations. Another factor that could have caused conflict is land. Land for this civilizations is very important. Even if they were far away they could go to win more territory, that would be another factor.

What could cause cooperation between this to civilizations is the Ancient Egypt's invention of papyrus paper and the Harapan's invention of the accurate measuring system so they could change and cooperate together. Also like the both civilizations are located in different places they could exchange the different crops. Another thing that can cause cooperation is having the river near because they will never fight for water.

I think that this two civilizations were big and important in the world at that time. If they would cooperate together they would be even better and bigger. But in the other hand if they decide to not help each other and start being rude to each other there would be a conflict and a fight between the two civilizations that could end up with the both of them very bad and not with the things they had then. I really liked studying about the early civilizations and watching the videos. But my favourite thing about this whole unit was learning about what each civilization invented.
